Rowher Trail / Lookout Trail
Rowher Flats OHV Area
July, 2010
The base of this trail is in the Rowher Flat O.H.V. Area in Newhall, which is a popular place for motorcyle riders. There are a couple of restrooms in a couple of the unloading areas and a few barbecues and picnic tables. But, unlike Hungry Valley, there are no trash or recylcing services. Pack it in and pack it out.
Although Rowher Trail is in the Angeles National Forest, there aren't a lot of trees. However, that doesn't stop it from burning up during seasonal brush fires, so be careful out there. The trail starts in the dry desert riding area of Rowher Flats. It's a harsh environment of dirt and rock, and it gets really hot and dusty in the summer. It starts by dipping quickly to a shady spot under a tree and then rising just as quickly starting the long climb to the peak.
